My lovely stockpile of non-plastic-bag crochet material, complete with attatched works-in-prog!

Monday, April 25, 2011

So yesterday was a great Easter for my family and me. My mom made an absolutely perfect dinner and dessert, and I went to bed with a stomach ache from eating too much. I'm up to my ears in chocolate and other Easter goodies, and I have also added three new skeins of yarn to my growing collection (green, pink, and white). 8D I seriously need to reorganize the shelf I keep all of my yarn on now, since I have half a billion skeins, probably a million plastic bags, and thousands of finished projects all on one shelf. OKAY, maybe not THAT many, but a lot! x3

So now I am off to rot my teeth out with all this sugar. My toothbrush may be seeing me more often than it used to now. I'll probably be eating all this chocolate well into May. MWUAHAHAHAHA.

I Am a Happy Girl, Indeed

Upon opening and removing the main contents of a gift my grandma sent to the family, I was thrilled beyond words to see that she had packed the box with... no, not packing peanuts or newspaper...PLASTIC! Like, plastic I can crochet with! Plastic bags of various colors, and huge squares of cherry red plastic! I literally squealed with joy as I removed all of the packing from the box. I then proceeded to kidnap the "empty" box and its plastic contents and whisked it away to me room, where it now sits beside me, asking where on earth I am going to put it o.o

Little Sprigs of Spring

Come on ladies! Put those hands in the air!

Is there anything better than seeing baby plants sprouting? The dainty green chutes springing up out of the soil, adding sprigs of joy to every type of planting container, be it a regular pot or a grill, like this one. Each little plant works beautifully and perfectly, each standing up with its tiny leaves outstretched to the life-giving sun high above like paper-thin hands, cupping the rays and holding the life in their palms. I think that, most often, the smallest things are God's most fascinating creations. They are so fragile, so delicate, and they are perfect. If we tried to make something that small, that perfect, we couldn't do it. Not only would we have to make a tiny thing, but one that works and carries out life flawlessly. Then we would have to duplicate it over and over and over again, each duplicate being equally as perfect as the first. Only God could create something like that, and I am glad He did. I love everything He has made. Don't you?

A Blurb on Herbs

My mom did not have to say much to convince me to run down to the bee garden with a pair of scissors. The only words she had to say were, "I know you like herbs" and "harvest the parsley."

Liking herbs, for me, is an understatement. For several years now I have been quite fascinated with using herbs as medicines and teas, and have enjoyed flipping the book my mom has about herbal remedies. While at a antique store I found a book about medicinal herbs for animals and went absolutely nutty. Five dollars for a huge book full of pictures and how-to's. I was in heaven on the spot!
Now, whenever I even see the word "herb" on some magazine or book, I instantly look into it, eager to read all I can about the many different plants and their uses. I've even dreamed of being an herbalist's apprentice (even though apprentices aren't that common these days, I still REALLY want to be one).

So today I gladly sat and chopped away at the parsley. Though, if we didn't have vitamin-C craving guinea pigs, I wouldn't have been as eager to chop away at the celery-like stalks with a big pair of blue scissors. But, we have four lovely piggies, and they love parsley, so I harvested all of the biggest stalks just for them!

It turns out that this very thing lead to a discussion about how it is said that there is little use for parsley other than being a garnish. Curious, I flipped through my animal herb book and found that statement to be quite false. Upon reading the lengthy passage of uses to my mom, she investigated what medical properties parsley has for humans. Turns out, it has many wonderful uses for both humans and animals. If you're curious, go check it out for yourself~ It is quite amazing to see all the uses this "garnish" has.

Best of wishes to anyone who is reading this today! I hope today is as pretty for you as it is for me. The trees are rocking in the wind here today, and the cool wind is quite refreshing. I could stand outside in it forever....

Playing With Shadows

Shadows have turned out to be one of my favorite things to photograph. Especially now since the plants are a bright, bright green, making the perfect stage for the playful tree shadows to dance across, baby-green leaves shuddering happily in the cool spring breeze.

Whether the sun decides to cast a play across the blinds or across the grassy carpet, my camera has tickets for the show and is ready to get the perfect snapshot of the gentle elegance.

Alas, I have been quite busy as of late. Storms caused a bit of a ruckus over here a few days back (nothing serious, though, praise the Lord), and now everyone seems to be on a Guinea pig rush. -laughs- Everyone in my family seems to be getting one...and they're so cute!

So, needless to say, I've been busy with that and several other things, such as thinking about what I'm going to do this summer, where I'm going to college, and whatnot. But, even though I am lacking things to create (though I have tons to create with), I have managed to paste a few more things onto a delayed Valentine's Day project. It's just tough to find the right pictures to glue onto the ones already there....This is a difficult one to coordinate, what with the various flowers and sweet foods lined up to be pasted on. Perhaps I work better with green and blue decoupage projects....Ah well. Pink is a challenge!

Anyway, I hope to get some things crocheted soon or find some lucky subjects for photos. I'll leave this as a sweet parting gift~

Parsley! Guinea pig food! 8D

A Strange Form of Creativity

If I were to pick a type of warm, sunny day that I preferred over all others, I would choose windy days without even the slightest of second thoughts. The way the invisible force plays in my hair and ruffles my clothes is truly invigorating, and the sculptures the wind carves of the clouds high above are quite marvelous works of art.

To tell the truth, I don't really have that much to say today. I feel very inspired to make some sort of art, but I don't exactly know what to make or what to make it out of.
What a strange sort of creativeness this is, indeed. Perhaps I'll just sit back and admire God's creation; listening to the wind rustle the tree branches above, watching the shadows play across the vivid grass, enjoying the hum of the bees in the cherry blossoms across the yard. Yes, there is so much to admire in this world, so much beauty and wonder. I should like to see all of it some day. The oceans, the mountains, the lush rainforests, even the savannah, far far away. I want to see cottages in Europe, smell the Mediterranean, see the sights and hear the sounds of a new world, a new place for me to experience first hand. For now, though, I shall sit under the shade of a peach tree and simply watch the clouds float over my cozy place, the place I call home....

Little Baby Beanie

Specially made
With love and with care
For a friend who lives far away
And though we've not met
Or seen face to face
To her this is the gift I gave
A hat for her baby
A girl coming soon
To wear when the air gets brisk
Crocheted in white
Hints of pink
Room to grow, I hope it fits
